Dear members,

The union commenced bargaining for a new collective agreement with Canadian Pacific (CP) on Sept. 14, 2022.

At the meeting, both parties exchanged proposals. The union made it clear that we are concerned with the employers heavy handed discipline, grievance backlog and the need for CP to improve wages for our members.

MONTREAL—Unifor opened bargaining for a new collective agreement with CN this morning in Montreal.

“The fact is that during a time of record inflation CN is reporting record quarterly earnings,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National President. “Without our members at the helm, this company wouldn’t have been able to get even close to that, and they deserve to be compensated fairly and treated with respect.”

Autoport Members Ratify Collective Agreement

After eight long months of negotiations, your Bargaining Committee reached a tentative agreement on October 7, 2022. This past weekend we held our ratification vote, and we are pleased to announce the new two-year collective agreement has been ratified.

Unifor/CP Bargaining Update

Dear Members,

On September 14, 2022, Unifor and CP opened contract negotiations. At the opening of contract talks your bargaining committee made it clear to the employer that its heavy-handed disciplinary actions must immediately stop and our members are expecting improvements in wages and benefits.

Local 100 and Autoport Eastern Passage Bargaining and Strike Vote Results

The bargaining committee at Autoport Eastern Passage has been negotiating with the employer since February 15, 2021. The collective agreement expired on December 31, 2021.

Unifor opens Negotiations with CP Rail

Dear Members,

Today Unifor National Secretary Treasurer Len Poirier, alongside Unifor Local 101R President Rick Raso and his bargaining committee opened negotiations with Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) for a new collective agreement this morning in Calgary.

CALGARY – Bargaining for a new collective agreement began this morning in Calgary between Unifor Local 101R and Canadian Pacific (CP).

“Our members have worked tirelessly day in and night across the country, in helping CP earn record profits,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National President. “It is our expectation that CP rewards our members with the fair and equitable wage increases that they deserve.”

MONTREAL – A tentative deal has been reached with VIA Rail and Unifor Council 4000 and Local 100 just hours before members were prepared to initiate job actions.

“From the beginning our bargaining committees felt the weight of their responsibility - to fight for the best deal for their members,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer. “They have done incredible work. They were tough and principled and they have proven that when we fight we can win for working people.”

MONTREAL – A strike deadline for VIA Rail workers, set for July 11 at 12:01 a.m. has been extended to July 11 at 4:00 p.m. eastern.

“We remain hopeful that a deal can be reached,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer. “Our bargaining committees have been steadfast in wanting to achieve a deal that respects and values their work.”

A strike deadline for July 11, 2022 was announced last Thursday, in an effort to give the public ample notice and an opportunity to make alternative arrangements for travel. Rail services will continue Monday.
