Anti-Scab Legislation

While Unifor applauds the introduction of long-anticipated anti-scab legislation prohibiting replacement workers in federal workplaces, there is still work to be done. Unifor is concerned about the 18-month delay before the legislation takes effect, is seeking amendments to the bill and continues to urge provinces and territories to introduce their own anti-scab laws.

A well-functioning EI program can bolster good jobs in the economy and provide income security for all.

Canada's aerospace industry must be part of the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft project

The federal government needs to replace its current fleet of CP-140 Aurora aircraft. This need led to the creation of the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMMA) project, an open bid process that would invite aerospace manufacturers, including those in Canada, to participate. Now, the federal government appears to be heading towards awarding a sole-source contract to buy the Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft rather than following plans that would allow Canada's aerospace industry to participate in the project. It's time to send a message to the federal government that Canadian aerospace workers want procurement policies that are fair and support Canada's domestic aerospace industry.

Firefighters deserve better

In 2023, Quebec experienced forest fires of historic proportions across its territory. A total of 564 fires destroyed nearly 1.3 million hectares of productive forest land. The intensity of the blazes created extremely dangerous conditions for both our forest firefighters and the communities that rely on their protection.

Safe Rates Campaign

Paying a driver a “safe rate” means they are paid fairly for all labour time and can make enough to take care of family and take appropriate breaks and time off, enabling them to be alert and focused while driving. If a driver owns their own vehicle, a safe rate must be calculated that covers the costs of purchasing, maintaining, and operating it. Safe Rates systems legally obligate the companies at the top of road transport supply chains to enforce these rates and can be found around the world including in Canada, Australia, South Korea, and Brazil.
