First Student Bus drivers in Owen Sound, Kincardine, and Georgetown may go on strike over wages and unpaid work time

TORONTO— Unifor is warning the public that its First Student Canada members working as school bus drivers in three units located in the Southwestern Ontario regions of Kincardine, Owen Sound and Georgetown, may go on strike the morning of Nov. 10, 2025, if a deal is not reached with the employer.

“Our First Student Bus members are part-timers who are trying to make a living wage,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. 

The key issues of this dispute in all three units are wages and unpaid work time.

First Student Bus threatens to lock out Unifor members, impacting 7,000 Windsor students

WINDSOR, ONT.—Unifor won’t be intimidated by First Student Canada after the school bus company threatened to lock out its Windsor, Ont. school bus drivers if they refuse to take their offer, which continues to underpay and undermine the members.

“This is bordering on bad faith bargaining,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.

First Student Bus drivers in Ajax and Whitby ratify contract

Unifor members at First Student Bus, working as drivers in Whitby and Ajax, have voted to ratify a new three-year contract that improves wages. 

“Congratulations to the bargaining committee who fought hard for the members to reduce wage gaps,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. 

First Student Bus drivers in Bowmanville, Ont. ratify deal

DURHAM—Members of Unifor Local 4268, who are First Student Bus drivers in Bowmanville, Ontario, have voted 87% in favour of ratifying a new three-year contract from their employer. 

“Congratulations to the bargaining committee for helping our members address the key important issues, including making a living wage,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.
