Unifor extends its deepest condolences to the families of murdered women Rebecca Contois, Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe, or Buffalo Woman.

November 25 starts a global campaign of 16 Days of Activism for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This year’s theme is Unite: Activism to End Violence Against Women. In the spirit of unity, Unifor is raising awareness among the membership about the Signal for Help, which began in 2020 as a way for women to silently show they need help and want someone to safely check in with them.

The full-zip, fleece-lined sweatshirts distributed at this year’s Women’s Conference were a big hit. The union has received many requests on how to order them for Locals – and now is your chance.

During the week of October 17 through 21, 2022, the Unifor Family Education Centre hosted four courses for women: Women’s Activist, Collective Bargaining, Women’s Advocate 40-Hour Basic Training, and the first 3-Day Women’s Advocate Update Course held in three years.

This year we mark Women’s History Month in Canada with the knowledge that gains toward equality are fragile and need vigilance to continually protect and enshrine them into the fabric of our union and country.

As we reach back into our past to share the stories of women who have been trailblazers, we learn important lessons from their struggles and triumphs that we need to continually remind ourselves of today.

Three women working at the University of Windsor – all Unifor members – will receive back pay in the range of $25,000 to $35,000 each from their employer, after the union filed a complaint with the province’s Pay Equity Review Services.

Unifor has become a signatory to the Reproductive Justice Manifesto, coordinated by the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada, the AccessBC Campaign for free prescription contraception, the BC Humanist Association, Options for Sexual Health, and the University of British Columbia Social Justice Centre.
