WINGHAM, ON—Unifor won a historic arbitration award totalling approximately $15 million for nearly 200 union members who worked at Wescast Industries Inc., ending a nearly two-year severance and termination pay dispute between the company and the union.

Unifor Local 1285 members at F&P Manufacturing, an independent auto parts supplier in Tottenham, Ontario, have successfully ratified their first collective agreement with 94% voting in favour. 

Members of Unifor Local 195 at Gates Windsor have ratified a three-year collective agreement voting 73% in favour of the new contract. The newly ratified contract affects 153 full-time and 22 temporary part-time employees, and delivers significant wage increases, enhanced benefits, and new workplace equity measures.

In a significant victory for approximately 190 workers affected by the sudden closure of the Adient seating plant in Tillsonburg, Ontario, an arbitrator has awarded each worker 14 weeks of additional pay for violating a promise to give six months notice of a plant closure. The 14 weeks pay is in addition to severance and notice of termination pay already received by the workers.

Workers at Flex-N-Gate Seeburn in Beaverton, Ontario are new members of Unifor. More than 100 employees at the independent auto parts supplier voted to join the union after a launching a campaign in June. 

TORONTO – Unifor welcomes 800 new auto sector members at F & P, a Tier 1 Automotive Parts Manufacturer located in Tottenham, Ontario.

Unifor Local 1859 members at THK Rhythm have voted to ratify a new collective agreement that includes general wage increases, a special inflation wage adjustment, new cost-of-living-adjustments (COLA), the reduction of wage progressions and the elimination of health and welfare benefit tiers. 

Unifor represents approximately 233 members at the auto parts manufacturer, located in Tillsonburg, Ontario. 

Unifor members at Magna Integram ratified a new tentative agreement after a five-day strike at the auto parts manufacturing plant. 

TORONTO— More than 250 members at Unifor Local 591-G have ended their five-day-long strike after ratifying a new collective agreement with Active Dynamics. 

“Congratulations to the bargaining team at Local 591-G for so firmly representing the needs of members,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.

WINGHAM, ON—A Wescast Industries internal company memo obtained by Unifor says the Wingham foundry’s overseas owners will not close the facility, a claim the union says is dubious.

“The record of Wescast management and its owner is one of broken promises, repeated violations of the collective agreement and disrespect towards workers,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National President. “Our union is not going to take the company’s claims on faith. At this time, Wescast’s words are not worth the paper they’re printed on.”
