Members of Unifor Local 195 at Gates Windsor have ratified a three-year collective agreement voting 73% in favour of the new contract. The newly ratified contract affects 153 full-time and 22 temporary part-time employees, and delivers significant wage increases, enhanced benefits, and new workplace equity measures.
"These negotiations came down to the wire and Unifor members at Gates Canada Windsor stood firm in their demands," said National President Lana Payne. "I congratulate our bargaining team for securing a deal that recognizes our members’ vital role in Ontario's auto parts supply chain, who build high-quality components that keep the industry moving."
The agreement provides wage increases of $2.75 per hour in year one, 3.5% in year two, and 3.25% in year three. Skilled Trades workers will receive an immediate $2.50 per hour increase, and a new apprenticeship program will be introduced over the contract’s duration. Members will also receive a $3,000 signing bonus.
In addition to wage gains, the deal introduces a paid holiday for Remembrance Day, an extra personal paid holiday, and enhancements to health benefits. New language addressing racial justice and mental health advocacy has also been included, reflecting the union’s commitment to secure improvements to equity and workers’ mental well-being initiatives in the workplace.
"Our bargaining team’s resolve was unwavering throughout these negotiations, ensuring that our members' voices were heard every step of the way," said Ontario Regional Director Samia Hashi. "This newly ratified agreement delivers important economic gains that reflect the hard work and dedication of our members while setting a strong foundation for the future."
Gates Windsor produces essential components, including pulleys, idlers, and belts for computer mainframes, and supplies a wide range of aftermarket parts programs.
"Our members can be proud of what we achieved together," said Local 195 President Emile Nabbout, "From improved wages to meaningful advancements in workplace equity, this agreement reflects our union’s commitment to raising industry standards for auto parts workers."
The new three-year agreement expires on November 19, 2027.
