Job Posting – Bilingual Payroll Administrator (Payroll Certified Accountant), Ottawa office

Position:

Unifor has a permanent opportunity as a Bilingual Payroll Administrator in the Accounting department. This role is responsible for all payroll processes, including the management of employee data, ensuring the accuracy of timesheets, computing wages, and ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time. To succeed, you should have strong numeracy skills and be able to multitask effectively. Ultimately, an outstanding Payroll Administrator should be able to manage all aspects of payroll in a timely and accurate manner.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Processing wages for Unifor staff;

  • Calculating payable hours (where applicable i.e. timesheets), allowances, union dues, overtime, pension contributions, sub plan, monthly bridge, tax withholdings and deductions within a pan Canadian environment and a weekly remittance schedule to CRA and Revenu Québec;

  • Maintaining employee records and coordinating with the Administration to ensure accuracy of employee data (HRIS: Sage People);

  • Providing information and answering employee questions about payroll related matters, in French and English;

  • Calculating statutory payments, such as maternity/parental, sabbatical, and sick leave;

  • Calculating vacation payouts;

  • Preparing and issuing earnings statements, as ROE, T4 and T4A, Releve 1 Releve 2, and WSIB and EHT annual reconciliation report;

  • Managing direct deposit and bill back for union business;

  • Submitting payroll weekly and monthly reports and sheets on time to the Finance Department;

  • Year end: Processing year to date adjustments.

Position requirements:

  • Canadian Payroll Association Certification required;

  • Bilingual French and English;

  • High School diploma/GED required;

  • Degree in business administration, finance, or accounting preferred;

  • 5+ years of experience working as a Payroll Administrator;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Sage 300;

  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail;

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;

  • Good time management and organization skills;

  • Working knowledge of relevant legal regulations;

  • Able to prioritize and multitask effectively.
