Unifor is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled temporary part-time Administrative Assistant to provide coverage services to the front desk from February 2026 to Mid-December 2026 at the Family Education Centre in Port Elgin. The successful candidate will be assigned a schedule that may be any combination of hours on any Friday, Saturday and Sunday when the Centre has occupancy or weekend requirements. The hours will be paid at the regular rate of pay per their classification. Any hours worked beyond the first seven (7) hours will be paid at time and-a-half. A proposed shift could be:
Friday | 5 pm to 9 pm | 4 hours straight = 4 hours paid |
Saturday | 9 am to 5 pm | 7 hours straight, 1 hour at 1.5 = 8.5 hours paid |
Sunday | 9 am to 9 pm | 7 hours straight, 5 hours at 1.5 = 14.5 hours paid |
| TOTAL | 24 hours worked, 27 hours paid |

Duties and responsibilities guidelines may include but are not limited to:
Perform administrative functions in a punctual, professional manner;
Provide accurate information and exemplary customer service and public relations to members, staff and guests while working on reception or taking telephone calls;
Manage emails, phone calls and faxes from various levels of Unifor staff, local unions, members and the public who use our facilities;
Provide support and coordinate information on matters relating to facility availability, check-in and check-out processes as well as assisting the office on other requirements from time to time;
Responsible for cash and cheque handling during check-in/check-out and tuck shop sales;
Maintaining database relating to registrations through set up, data entry and reporting;
Coordinate information with Directors, coworkers, accounting, and other Centre Staff (housekeeping, kitchen and conference services, etc.);
Follow an organized filing/document management process for electronic and paper documents.
Position Requirements:
Post-secondary education, diploma holder or equivalent experience;
At least two (2) years’ experience in a similar customer service/administrative role or equivalent;
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills in English as well as effective phone etiquette, to diverse audiences;
Knowledge of French (oral and written) is considered and asset
Strong attention to detail;
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, with the ability to quickly learn new systems and programs;
Strong time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks while working within sometimes tight and competing deadlines often in the presence of the customer;
Recognition and respect of the diversity of our members and guests;
Ability to solve problems and deal with ambiguous situations;
Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
