On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Unifor honours the memory of the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust, and the millions of others targeted by the Nazi regime.

We remember the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 27, 1945, a solemn reminder of the unimaginable consequences of hatred, dehumanization, and indifference.

The Holocaust did not begin with camps. It began with words, with lies and propaganda, and with the normalization of fear and exclusion. Today, as antisemitism and extremist ideologies rise once again around the world, and civil unrest and political violence follow global instability, remembrance is not symbolic, it is urgent.

As a union, we know that silence in the face of injustice allows harm to spread. Working people and labour movements have a critical role to play in challenging hate, defending human dignity, and building communities rooted in solidarity. We must confront antisemitism, racism, and all forms of discrimination wherever they appear, in our workplaces, our institutions, and our public life.

We also honour the resilience of Holocaust survivors, whose testimonies remind us of both the depths of human cruelty and the power of courage, truth, and resistance. Their stories compel us to act and continue our work to build a world where hate, antisemitism, and discrimination have no place.
