“Congratulations to the bargaining committee for reaching a fair contract,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “Waste management is a crucial infrastructure in communities, and we are glad they are recognized for the work they do.”

The gains in this contract include a $2 increase in the first year, and then 2.5% in the second and third year and $500 retention bonus for all members. There is also a new Racial Justice Advocate position, improved allowances for work boots and tools, and increased dental coverage, including orthodontics.

The new contract will expire April 26, 2028.

“I want to thank our members for their solidarity during this bargaining process,” said Unifor Local 4268 President Debbie Montgomery.

“We’ve had record-breaking temperatures this week, and our members are dedicated, hard-working and perform physically under extreme temperatures, hot and cold. We are also pleased to see improvements in benefits and wages, which will help the work-life balance of our members.”
