Unifor Local 4268 members who perform transportation services for Transfreight Inc. who work at the General Motors CAMI Automotive assembly plant have ratified a new three year collective agreement.

The new agreement, endorsed by 90 per cent, reflects the hard work done by the bargaining committee. “When a bargaining committee comes prepared with the issues that are most important for the members and achieves the modifications that we did around work rules, members will clearly voice their approval as they did here,” said Unifor Local 4268 President Debbie Montgomery.

In addition to an average of 3.4% gain in wages, advancements were made in other areas such as extended benefit options, expanded union involvement prior to job bids, bereavement leaves, vacation scheduling, and hours of work.

The recognition of a new driver’s classification which allows for a more standardized shift and bidding with flexibility also includes a premium pay was well-received.   “Going into bargaining we were faced with how the members are affected by the constant monitoring and cancelation of routes as directed by GM,” said Len Poirier, Unifor national representative. “Having the drivers guaranteed their expected route rate and being partially (50 percent) compensated when that route maybe cancelled or offered alternate was a large gain for the drivers in this dedicated customer controlled workplace.”

The collective agreement will be effective from October 27, 2013 to October 22, 2016.
