EDMONTON—Unifor joined more than 20 Alberta unions today to announce the Solidarity Pact to unite over 250,000 workers in a bold stand for workers’ rights and public services.

“Unifor is proud to help lead this united front in Alberta,” said Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle. “When governments attack workers, it’s our job to fight back—together. This pact is a promise to every worker that unions stand ready to defend their rights.”

The Solidarity Pact, signed by nearly every major union in the province, is a historic commitment to coordinated action in defence of decent wages, the right to strike, and strong, well-funded public services. The pact also responds to growing economic uncertainty and UCP government efforts to suppress wages.

The launch event included remarks from union leaders across sectors including health care, education, and post-secondary, all voicing their collective support for the pact. Speakers emphasized the urgency of fair contract settlements, inflation protection, and resisting legislative attacks on collective bargaining.

“This is about solidarity in action,” said McGarrigle. “Workers in Alberta are facing rising costs and it's harder to make ends meet. The Common Front gives us the strength in numbers to push back and win real improvements for all.”

The Common Front campaign will coordinate advocacy actions, mobilize members province-wide, and demand public sector budgets that protect jobs and services. The campaign calls on all Albertans who believe in fairness for workers to sign the pledge of support.

Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing 320,000 workers in every major area of the economy. The union advocates for all working people and their rights, fights for equality and social justice in Canada and abroad, and strives to create progressive change for a better future.
