Solidarity among workers forms the backbone of progress. Standing united against transphobia and hate is not just our responsibility as a union, but a fundamental act of protecting the dignity and rights of every individual in Canada.

On this Trans Day of Visibility, which occurs annually on March 31, Unifor reaffirms its unwavering commitment to standing in solidarity with trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals. Trans rights are human rights and our union plays an important part in protecting and enhancing these rights for all workers nationwide.

During a time when transphobia, alt-right hate, and political division are on the rise, it is imperative for us as a union to continue our fierce advocacy and action for trans rights. These rights are again under attack by conservative politicians across the country, fueled by fear-mongering, misinformation, and divisive rhetoric.

By actively listening, advocating, and creating safer spaces, we have the collective power to foster communities where trans individuals feel not just accepted, but truly embraced and celebrated for who they are.

There are persisting challenges faced by trans and queer workers in workplaces, communities, and society at large. Discrimination, harassment, and violence continue to escalate, hindering their ability for individuals to fully participate and thrive. Unifor recognizes that the fight for justice and equality cannot be won without addressing and dismantling the systemic barriers that perpetuate transphobia and hate.

At the heart of our union is the belief that every worker deserves dignity, respect, and fair treatment. Unifor remains steadfast in its dedication to creating safer and more inclusive spaces where trans individuals can work free from discrimination and prejudice. We recognize the importance of amplifying trans voices, experiences, and leadership within our union and beyond.

Our collective strength lies in our solidarity and our ability to mobilize for change. Unifor stands in solidarity with trans communities, advocating for policy reforms, workplace protections, and societal attitudes that foster acceptance and celebration of gender diversity. We reject all forms of hate and discrimination, and we will continue to challenge and confront transphobia wherever it exists.

Together, as members of Unifor, we will continue to champion the rights and visibility of trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals, working tirelessly to create a world where everyone can live and work with dignity, respect, and equality.
