From July 7 – 9, Unifor’s Atlantic Communication Locals (Locals 401, 410, 506, and 2289), met for the 10th Biennial Council Locals meeting. With Bell Canada bargaining set to begin in September, the meeting covered issues like, job security, wages, and benefits.
Unifor Atlantic Regional Director Jennifer Murray brought greetings to the council, thanking local representatives for their hard work representing members and building the Council’s strength. “This council is strong. And it’s getting stronger,” said Murray. “The collaboration between locals, the solidarity, the shared commitment to our members – it’s something we should all be proud of. We’ve come a long way, and we’re in a better place because of the work you’ve done together. And that strength is going to matter more than ever as we head into bargaining this fall.”
Unifor ACL members have faced years of cuts from Bell, leaving them to do more with less, watching their coworkers disappear, and wondering if they’re next. Locals discussed ensuring wages keep up with the cost of living, that our members are part of the future of the company – not just a cost to be cut, and building protections for generations of workers to come.
“When we stick together – when we speak with one voice – we’re powerful. And that’s exactly what this council is doing. You’re imagining a future where our members don’t just survive – they thrive. Where wages reflect their worth. Where benefits support their families. Where no one is left behind because of where they live or work,” Murray said.
