To: Tracy Robinson, CEO, Canadian National Railway
      Olivier Chouc, President, Autoport

As the elected representatives of Canada’s 20,000 auto sector members at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, we are writing to denounce your company and its subsidiary’s decision to use scab labour at Autoport in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

On March 22, 2024, we met to discuss the situation unfolding in Nova Scotia as well as a range of potential solidarity actions in support of Unifor Local 100 members affected by this dispute.

Let us be perfectly clear: The use of scab labour is both a deplorable and disgraceful practice and has no place in Canada. By using scabs at Autoport, you are undermining the collective bargaining process and denying these workers their fundamental rights to withdraw their labour.

Your actions send a clear message that you do not believe in fair, constructive, meaningful labour relations with workers in Canada. This position is unacceptable.

Autoworkers in Canada will not sit idly by as you employ scabs in an attempt to restrain our fellow union members’ efforts to reach a fair settlement.

We are calling on your company and its subsidiaries to immediately end the use of scab labour at Autoport in Halifax and return to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair settlement with Local 100 members.

We await your timely response and will continue to consider potential escalatory actions in the meantime.

Sincerely,

John D’Agnolo
