Job action begins at MagnaCharge

Unifor Local 114 is on the picket line in Delta to reject proposals by MagnaCharge to cut benefits for new employees.

“Unifor was formed to fight for good jobs in every sector for workers of every age. We won’t let MagnaCharge cheapen the quality of jobs for current employees or future ones,” said Cynthia Anderson, a spokesperson for Unifor Local 114.

The employer has tabled proposals to make deep cuts to vacation time for new employees, something Unifor says is ideological more than practical.

“The short-term benefit to MagnaCharge of their bargaining position is virtually nil. They should get back to the bargaining table and help us get a fair deal that doesn’t sacrifice the next generation of workers,” said Joie Warnock, Unifor’s Western Director.

Unifor Local 114 members started a legal strike at 9 a.m. today. Unifor has represented service and distribution staff at MagnaCharge for over 20 years.
