Unifor has published the second in a series of factsheets about the dangerous Alberta Bill 47 introduced last month.
The second factsheet outlines changes proposed to the province’s joint health and safety committees.
“Alberta’s workers have earned the right to be involved in the workplace decisions that impact our safety and well-being,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “If Alberta Bill 47 passes, it will dramatically scale back workers’ role in preventing workplace injury or even death.”
The Bill excludes many workplaces from the requirement to have a joint committee. It eliminates committee training requirements and removes the role of unions from selecting committee members.
“Bill 47 is a full-scale attack on decades of health and safety prevention,” said Gavin McGarrigle, Unifor Western Regional Director. “Workers must be involved in prevention. We simply cannot rely on the employer alone to protect us at work.”
Last week Unifor circulated a factsheet about the dramatic changes to Alberta workers’ right to refuse unsafe work.
