KINGSTON, ON, April 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Unifor National President Jerry Dias will be delivering the Donald Gow Memorial Lecture at Queen's University, on the challenges of promoting and strengthening workers' rights in the digital economy. The lecture will take place on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Queen's University Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
Dias will be tackling how public policy can and should be developed in the service of creating and sustaining good jobs, now and in the future. In particular, Dias will be addressing the growth of Uber taxi, the CRTC and its diminishing Canadian content requirements, the growth of retail work and a number of other issues shaping the labour market today.

Dias is the first labour leader to deliver this lecture. Past lecturers include John Baird, Bob Rae, David Dodge, Roy Romanow and many others. Dias was elected Unifor's first national president at the union's founding convention on August 31, 2013.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 305,000 workers. It was formed with the merger of the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions.
