Dear Members,

It has come to our attention that DHL has been meeting with union members across the country to discuss bargaining. In particular, the company has shared the content of specific proposals and editorialized the bargaining committee’s initial response to some of their proposals.

We believe that the company is intentionally misinforming the union membership to paint your bargaining committee in a negative light, and in turn, stoke fear and sow division amongst each other. This is an underhanded and common tactic that many companies utilize in order to benefit their position in collective bargaining by pitting members against one another.

As many of you will recall, we provided an update to the status of bargaining on Jan. 27, 2025, following the first week of national bargaining meetings. Few items on both the union and the company’s agenda were agreed or withdrawn therefore numerous proposals have not been resolved or discussed in depth.

It is not your bargaining committee’s practice to share the exact status of every proposal and the company’s responses to said proposals when there are still more discussions required to adequately address them.

Collective bargaining is a dynamic process and one party’s stance a particular topic can dramatically change from day to day as negotiations progress. We believe in maintaining discretion of those discussions when those matters have not yet been fully explored, because this displays trust, respect, and promotes good labour relations towards the opposite party.

It is apparent that the company does not feel the same way in this regard. We do not provide a live “play-by-play” of every discussion and proposal because what is on the table one day could be off the table the next, and communicating the status of negotiations in real time can create confusion, anger, and could prematurely raise expectations if certain proposals are ultimately agreed to or withdrawn.

We trust that our members will see through the company’s games and will not let them use this to divide us. We need to be united and show our solidarity with one another to show the company that we are serious about achieving a collective agreement that delivers improvements to our pay and working conditions.

We thank you for your continued patience, support, and you can expect another update in the coming weeks as we meet with the company for a second week of national bargaining.

United we stand, divided we fall.

In solidarity,

DHL National Bargaining Committee
