On Thursday, November 10, Unifor was informed by the employer that Casino Rama Resort experienced a cyberattack. This internet attack has resulted in the theft of personal information of employees and all customers that have visited the casino. Unifor was informed that the release of personal information may affect all employees from 2004 to 2016.
This matter is of great concern to the union and we are working with the employer to ensure that all members are provided with information about this incident and can take preventive steps to help protect your personal information.
The employer is providing to each employee free of charge for 12 months of service from an identity theft and credit monitoring service provided by Equifax.
The employer is working with cyber security experts and a criminal investigation is underway. There is no indication or evidence that the hacker is continuing to access information. At this point it is unknown if any employee or personal information has been released by the hacker into cyberspace or to the public, but the matter is of great concern and we are taking it seriously.
As Unifor continues to monitor this situation members are strongly advises you to do the following:
- Contact your bank/financial institution, credit card company to report this incident.
- Review any financial transactions with your bank account(s), credit cards starting from November 4, 2016. Any irregularities should be reported directly to your financial institution.
- Closely monitor and verify all bank accounts, credit card and other financial transaction statements and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate financial institution.
- Check your email to register with Equifax and access assistance to protect your identity. The employer is paying for 12-months of this service to support you. Activate it today!
- Please inform your family and friends of this incident.
