TORONTO, May 11, 2016 /CNW/ - Two rallies to the held Thursday and Friday in Windsor and Toronto will give those who can't get into this week's federal hearings on the Trans-Pacific Partnership a chance to speak out on how the trade deal will affect them.
"The new government came to power saying it wanted to hear from Canadians about the TPP, so these rallies are being held to make sure they hear from as many people as possible," said Roland Kiehne, Unifor's Director of Member Mobilization and Political Action.
Unifor will be participating in two rallies this week outside consultations on the TPP as the federal government's trade committee visits Windsor on Thursday and Toronto on Friday.
The Windsor rally, organized by the Windsor and District Labour Council, will give a chance for speakers from across the Windsor and Essex County area – as well as invited guest from the U.S. – to speak out.
In Toronto, the Unifor-organized rally has been dubbed the Parallel People's Trade Hearings, with speakers that include labour leaders, food and commercial workers, health care workers, media workers and more.
"We are going to make this a chance for everyone to speak out. The TPP will have too great an impact on our country for us to risk that even one voice is not heard that wants to be," Kiehne said.
