Newspapers need to be exempt from EPR Initiative

I write to you today on a matter relating to the media and news print industries. Unifor is Canada’s largest private sector union representing 315,000 members across Canada, working in 20 economic sectors. In the media, our union represents more than 12,000 workers, including more than 6,000 members in the news and print industries.

Unifor converts 300 temporary positions into permanent jobs

FORT MCMURRAY—A new memorandum of understanding signed with Suncor will convert 300 temporary positions into permanent jobs by the end of 2024.

“Local 707-A has done great work to secure these additional good jobs by mutual agreement with the employer,” said Gavin McGarrigle, Unifor Western Regional Director.

Bill 124 Charter challenge is heard in Ontario Superior Court

Bill 124 squashed the wages and bargaining rights of public sector workers for two years in Ontario.

And now, after two years of prep, Bill 124 hearings began on Monday September 12, 2022. The hearings will run Monday-Friday from September 12-23.
