Unifor members from coast to coast enthusiastically welcome today’s Supreme Court decision to reject legislation that sought to limit collective bargaining and legal job action. The Court has ruled that Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall’s attempt to strip public sector workers of fundamental rights under “essential services” legislation is unconstitutional.
A mass meeting of truck drivers servicing Port Metro Vancouver unanimously resolved to begin protests if negotiations about the BC government’s proposed wage cuts don’t result in a fair solution. After several meetings last week aimed at defusing the tense situation, truck drivers are cautiously optimistic that a solution can be found at the bargaining table.
“BC’s workers have a strong ally in Irene Lanzinger. She will be a terrific leader for our movement to create and protect good jobs and make work safer,” said Joie Warnock, Unifor’s Western Director.
