Member engagement starts with clear, consistent, two-way communication.
If you’ve ever wondered why meeting turnout is low, felt the stress of rumours during bargaining, or watched coworkers trust the employer’s memo over the union’s message, this Local Union Communications Course is for you.
In this week-long course, members will learn how to match the right communication methods to their workplace, goals, and member culture; how to use today’s tools (from email and text lists to social media); and how to build a communications plan that increases participation, reduces misinformation, and strengthens solidarity.
You’ll leave with:
- A simple communications plan you can adapt for your local.
- The knowledge to craft clear, member-friendly messages for key moments including bargaining updates, mobilization, social and recreation events, and meeting reminders.
- Practical tactics to increase turnout and participation (including how to reach members who don’t come to meetings).
- Tools and templates for email and text lists, flyers, and social posts, plus tips to keep your message consistent and goal oriented.
- Guidelines for when, and when not, to use AI.
- Strategies and tips to counter rumours and employer messaging with timely, credible union communications.
Strong locals don’t leave communication to chance. Join us to develop the skills you need to be prepared and to get your fellow members ready for the challenges ahead.
