Skilled Trades

Ken Anderson is the National Skilled Trades Council Chairperson for Unifor, representing more than 50,000 Skilled Trades workers across Canada. He was elected to this role in June 2024.

Ken began his career in the Canadian Forces Army, serving proudly with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). After completing his military service, he pursued an apprenticeship as a 427A Sprinkler and Fire Protection Installer, becoming a licensed tradesperson before joining Ford Motor Company’s Windsor Operations in 1994 as a Steamfitter/Plumber.

A dedicated member of Unifor Local 200, Ken was elected Skilled Trades Chairperson for two terms, championing the rights and voices of his fellow trades members. In 2020, he was appointed National Skilled Trades Coordinator, where he advanced training, advocacy, and equity across the sector.

An important area of focus during his time as National Coordinator was Unifor’s Women in Trades Program, an initiative he is deeply passionate about. Ken remains committed to breaking down barriers for women entering the trades and promoting the benefits of trade careers as a solution to Canada’s ongoing Skilled Trades shortage.
