With Canadian Council 2018 underway in Halifax, Unifor Secretary-Treasurer Bob Orr provided an overview of the state of Unifor’s finances.
“To all of you that have had the courage to strike or suffer through a lockout to defend and advance your rights you are an inspiration to all of us,” said Bob Orr, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer. “Unifor does not back down. Adversity only deepens our resolve and strengthens our determination.”
Orr explained how the Unifor Defence fund has supported past and ongoing strikes at CAMI, DJ-Composites, Niobec, Delastek, and AMT.
The financial presentation highlighted the successes Unifor has had in campaigns work, building community relationships and most importantly strengthening service to members’ day in day out.
“Supporting community organizations has been a cornerstone of Unifor,” said Orr. For 2017, Unifor has made significant donations to Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, North American Indigenous Games, Working Families, Women’s Shelters, Syrian Families, Food Banks, BC NDP, Air Canada Foundation and Ryerson University.
