On Saturday night, as the Toronto Argonauts took on the Montreal Alouettes, the stands in Toronto were filled with union members and youth from across the city, sponsored to attend by Unifor.
The Unifor Community Day with the Argonauts was a celebration of family, solidarity, and sport.
“Unifor is a union that builds communities,” said Unifor National President Jerry Dias. “This collaboration was one way that hardworking members can meet with and give back to young people who might not otherwise have been able to enjoy the game.”
Nearly 300 youth and hundreds more Unifor members representing locals and workplaces from all across Ontario came to the event. Throughout the afternoon participants enjoyed a free BBQ, were entertained by the Toronto Argonauts Cheerleaders, met with the outstanding Pinball Clemons and witnessed the Jerry Dias open the game with a coin toss.
Unifor thanks the Argonauts, the Pinball Clemons Foundation and the 15 participating youth groups and school teachers whose commitment to building community improves the lives of the children across Toronto.
With an explosive 26-0 first half and an impressive 33-19 finish, the Argonauts brought the heat for fans. This event brought together a wider community, and gave the Unifor family another chance to grow.
