The Honourable Vic Fedeli
Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade
Dear Ministers,
I am requesting your offices convene an urgent four-party meeting to discuss the future of Brampton Assembly Plant.
Contract negotiations between Unifor and Stellantis reached an impasse on September 11, 2026. Our union’s primary focus is to preserve Stellantis’ manufacturing footprint in Canada, and we remain steadfastly opposed to the company’s proposal to close and sell the Brampton Assembly Plant. The economic and job security implications of a closure and sale for Unifor members, and Canada’s auto industry, are severe. Unifor does not accept the closure and sale of the Brampton Assembly Plant – one major issue among several others blocking the path to a tentative settlement.
Bilateral discussions between Stellantis executives and Government of Canada officials have taken place for several months. Unifor has not been a party to these discussions. These discussions have so far yielded no acceptable solution for the Brampton Assembly Plant, that protects Unifor members’ jobs and preserves Canada’s automotive assembly capacity.
I believe it is in our collective interest – Unifor, Stellantis along with the Governments of Canada and Ontario – to engage jointly in good faith dialogue and strive to identify and advocate a shared solution for the Brampton Assembly Plant.
I firmly believe there is a genuine desire among parties to find a resolve. Rather than continuing parallel dialogues that are proving to be disjointed and misaligned we believe the current dispute centred around the Brampton Assembly Plant is best discussed with all parties at the table.
I look forward to a positive and urgent response to this request.
Sincerely,
Lana Payne
National President
