The Saint-Gobain Chile Workers' Union expresses its deepest fraternity, solidarity, and support to the members of Unifor Local 12, who have been on strike since July 24, 2026, at the Plattsville plant in Ontario, Canada, in defense of fundamental demands related to wages and pension security.
From Chile, we have closely followed the development of this process and particularly value the determination, cohesion, and unity demonstrated by the workers, who endorsed this industrial action with 97% approval, clearly reflecting the legitimacy of their demands and their collective commitment to defending rights considered essential for their well-being and that of their families.
We understand that one of the main objectives of these negotiations is to achieve conditions that will help restore the purchasing power eroded during the previous collective agreement, while also strengthening retirement security for workers. These concerns are not exclusive to one region or country; they form part of the ongoing challenges faced by trade unions and working people throughout the world.
We are also concerned about the prolonged nature of this dispute and the difficulties it creates for the workers involved and their families. We firmly believe that social dialogue, mutual respect, and collective bargaining conducted in good faith constitute the appropriate path toward fair, balanced, and sustainable agreements.
As workers of the same global company, we understand that the strength of our labor community is also built through international solidarity. When workers at one plant are compelled to mobilize in defense of their rights and working conditions, their voices transcend borders and find support among workers around the world who share the same principles of dignity, justice, and respect.
Therefore, we extend our fraternal greetings from Chile to our brothers and sisters in Canada, our recognition of the unity and commitment they have demonstrated throughout these weeks of mobilization, and our assurance that they have the full support, solidarity, and backing of the Saint-Gobain Chile Workers' Union.
Please receive our fraternal embrace and our best wishes that this process reaches a fair resolution that fully recognizes the legitimate aspirations of the workers involved.
