Workers at Northeast Nutrition— a federally regulated feed mill in Truro, N.S., which produces fish food for Cooke Aquaculture—has ratified a new three-year agreement at 82% with their employer.
“Congratulations to the bargaining committee for getting our fishery food production members in the East Coast a fair deal,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.
“It was the first time at the table for several members of the bargaining committee, and they all did a tremendous job.”
The biggest gain of this contract is an 11% wage increase over the life of the contract.
The 46 members of Local 4606, Unit 22, work as operators, maintenance and general labourers.
The biggest challenge with negotiating this contract was addressing production concerns with the employer.
“Members were very satisfied with the tentative agreement we brought to them for ratification,” said Local 4606 Unit Chairperson Greg Schnare.
“We addressed a lot of the issues brought forward by the local in this round of bargaining and we feel the changes that we made positively addressed those concerns.”
The collective agreement will expire Nov. 30, 2028.
