Unifor members deliver strong strike mandate at VIA Rail
Dear Members,
Council 4000 and Local 100 have concluded strike votes across the VIA Rail system, delivering a strong and united mandate to their bargaining committees as negotiations continue under the conciliation process.
Council 4000 members voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action with 97.5% support, while Local 100 members also delivered a strong strike mandate with 96% support.
This clear strike mandate sends an unmistakable message to VIA Rail: our members will not accept concessions or delays.
As previously reported, VIA Rail continues to maintain major concessionary demands at the bargaining table and has not responded to the union’s monetary proposals.
This behaviour has eroded trust and credibility, forcing the union to take the necessary steps to prepare for job action.
Your bargaining committees will return to the table on May 26. VIA Rail now has an opportunity to change course, remove concessions, and bargain seriously.
Should a tentative agreement not be reached, members will be in a legal strike position as of June 22, 2025.
We thank every member who participated in the vote and stood behind your union. Stay connected to union communications for updates.
In solidarity,
Council 4000 and Local 100 VIA Rail Master Bargaining Committees
