AJAX—Wage increases and sweeping improvements to benefits are features of a new collective agreement for Unifor members working at the Hilton hotel in Ajax.

“Protecting wages from inflation was a top priority in this round of bargaining,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer. “I congratulate the team at Local 1090 for negotiating gains in the new contract.”

The three-year agreement includes annual wage increases of 7%, 3.25%, and 3.25%. Banquet and server gratuities policy is improved and the new contract increases dental and vision coverage and raises the safety shoe allowance. A new group retirement program was established and members will receive a fifth week of vacation upon reaching 20 years of service.

“Unifor is a union for hospitality workers,” said Corey Dalton, Local 1090 president. “Workers in the hospitality industry suffered during COVID-19 closures and gradual re-starts. They are the backbone of many tourism and conference industries and we work hard to ensure they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”

Local 1090 represents 60 members at the Hilton Garden Inn at 500 Beck Crescent in Ajax.

Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing 315,000 workers in every major area of the economy. The union advocates for all working people and their rights, fights for equality and social justice in Canada and abroad, and strives to create progressive change for a better future.
