Workers at Unifor Local 673 and Local 112 members ratified new collective agreements with MDA securing significant improvements in several areas including: wages, benefits, pensions, and sick days.
“Our members working in a variety of analytical, technical, administrative and other supporting roles contribute so much to make this cutting edge facility successful and it is important that we secured these vital improvements to compensation and working conditions in this round of bargaining,” said Maryellen McIlmoyle, Unifor Local 673 President.
Unifor workers at MDA support the design and manufacturing of some of the country’s most advanced robotics, sensors, and payloads for numerous industries including Canada’s contribution to international space exploration and research.
Under the new collective agreements, members at Unifor Local 112 and Local 673 will receive seven per cent wage increases over the life of the three-year agreement including a roll in of a Cost of Living Allowance in the first year. Gains were made to vision care, the agreement’s Lead Language was improved as were provisions for special severance. Members’ short- and long-term disability plan was also improved as was the Defined Benefit pension plan which was increased by $2 per month per year of service.
Work was also returned to Local 673 members that had been removed under the previous contract and Local 112 members increased sick days from 3 to 10.
“I’m proud of the work our bargaining team did to deliver solid gains for our members at MDA whose work and expertise is among the most advanced manufacturing in Canada and such a source of pride for our country,” said Scott McIlmoyle, Unifor Local 112 President.
Unifor represents 28 members at MDA covered by the new agreement. Local 673 and Local 112 members ratified the agreements by 78 per cent and 100 per cent respectively.
