Unifor Locals 195, 698, 815, 1285, and 1459 ratified a new two-year tentative agreement with Team Industrial covering 350 cleaning and facility management workers at auto assembly plants and parts depots in Red Deer, Windsor, Brampton, Mississauga, Etobicoke, and Montreal.

“As Canada’s union for autoworkers, I’m proud that Unifor continues to make solid gains for our members in this critical industry during these challenging times,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “Our bargaining committee delivered on the key priorities identified by of our members. I would like to congratulate everyone involved on a job well done.”

Unifor members ratified the agreement after holding online voting and information meetings January 29 to February 1. The deal was ratified by a majority of members with an overall result of 61%.

“The bargaining team worked incredibly hard to reach a deal that honours the hard work our members do every day and the significant contribution they make to Canada’s auto industry,” said Dino Chiodo, Unifor’s Director of Auto. “These negotiations were difficult, but I’m pleased that at the end of the day, our members ratified an agreement that provides job security and important economic gains.”

The newly ratified two-year collective agreement addresses members’ main concerns leading into the negotiations, including:

  • 5% general wage increases over the life of the agreement.
  • Improvements to banked time.
  • $1,500 signing bonus for full-time members.
  • The premium for day (5%) and midnight (10%) shifts has now been reinstated for all members.
  • Improvements to group insurance benefits including orthodontics, eye exams and prescription glasses, as well as psychotherapy.

The term of the new collective agreement is effective until November 2022.
