TORONTO, June 8, 2015 /CNW/ - Unifor believes that every Canadian should have access to good healthcare, including a comprehensive, universal, public pharmacare program. Leaders from across Canada gathered today in Toronto to speak on this issue in a roundtable discussion led by Dr. Eric Hoskins, Ontario's Minister of Health and Long Term Care.

"We encourage these leaders to find a way to make prescription medication accessible and affordable for all Canadians," said Katha Fortier, Unifor Ontario Regional Director. "Canada is the only developed nation in the world with a universal health care system that does not include universal coverage of prescription drugs and there is a way to fix that."

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 305,000 workers, including more than 26,000 health care workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged.
