Today, December 20, nurses represented by the Royal College of Nursing union across England, Wales and Northern Ireland are staging the largest strike in the history of the National Health Service.

Unifor expresses solidarity with striking nurses and with thousands of workers from many sectors taking strike action this month in the UK. The strikes to demand economic and social justice for all working people were initiated by rail workers and have continued to gain support across the country.

Today's nurses strike is the continuation of dozens of strike days called by trade unions in the UK demanding fair compensation and working conditions in the face of the rising cost of living, lack of affordable housing, and food precarity.

Unifor knows that the situation must be dire when nurses and health care workers take strike action. Demanding better working conditions and high quality care for patients is an integral part of working for and believing in a national public health service.

On behalf of 315,000 members, Unifor extends solidarity to all workers in the UK demanding fair wages and better conditions for all.
