Unifor’s Social Justice Fund is helping to expand access to health care in Scarborough, ON through its contribution to the new Northpine Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Department at Scarborough General Hospital.

“This new facility will provide essential diagnostic imaging services and help improve patient care for families both in Scarborough and across Toronto,” said Unifor Ontario Regional Director Samia Hashi. “Investing in health care is investing in our communities and Unifor is proud to support initiatives that strengthen public services.”

The union’s contribution to the Scarborough Health Network’s (SHN) new diagnostic imaging department reflects its commitment to strengthening access to public health care services for families across the city, while ensuring health care workers have access to the necessary tools needed to properly diagnose and treat members of the community. The ultrasound room dedicated to Unifor recognizes the union’s role in supporting this expansion, which doubles the footprint of imaging services at Scarborough General Hospital and improves access to advanced diagnostic tools for local patients.

Unifor’s Social Justice Fund is a registered charity that supports projects focused on poverty reduction, disaster relief, human rights, and social programs. Funded by employer contributions negotiated in Unifor collective agreements, the SJF partners with community organizations in Canada and internationally to support vital services, including health care, education, and humanitarian aid.
