The Unifor Social Justice Fund is once again making major year-end donations to food banks and women’s shelters across Canada as families continue to face rising prices, and growing economic pressure.

This December, Unifor will distribute $300,000 to 74 food banks to help meet surging demand driven by escalating costs, unjust tariffs and corporate profiteering.

“Families across the country are struggling with the rising cost of living, and food banks are seeing unprecedented demand,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “The contributions from our Social Justice Fund will help ease the burden for thousands of households facing daily challenges just to put food on the table, especially during the holidays.”

Unifor is also contributing $180,000 to 75 women’s shelters to support women and children seeking safety from intimate partner violence.

“Supporting women’s shelters is a vital part of our commitment to ending gender-based violence in every community,” said Payne. “Through the Social Justice Fund, we are proud to stand with survivors and the organizations that support them.”

Unifor’s national campaign to declare intimate partner violence an epidemic has already helped secure official recognition in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and the union continues to push for action in every province and territory. Through the union’s Women’s Advocate program and partnerships with frontline organizations, Unifor remains committed to supporting survivors and preventing violence.

The Unifor Social Justice Fund is a registered charity that supports national and international NGOs, community organizations and advocacy groups working to strengthen democracy, promote equitable development, provide humanitarian relief and advance human rights.
