As the tragic conflict in Gaza continues to unfold, Unifor is showing its solidarity with the people of the region facing escalating bombardments by Israeli forces.

“We stand with the people of Gaza, and we call on Canada to take all necessary diplomatic, political and economic actions needed to end the military offensive,” Unifor National President Jerry Dias said.

May 22 is a Global Day of Action is solidarity with the people of Palestine, marked by rallies around the world and other actions.

Unifor is encouraging members to show their support on social media on May 22, by taking up the theme that a solution is “in our hands” by writing messages of solidarity and support on your hands and posting photos to social media on Saturday.

“Global political pressure is needed, and it is our hands to make sure that happens.”

For those who are able, and feel safe doing so, please also look up rallies in your communities to attend. If you choose to do this, however, please stay safe and maintain social distance.

When posting to social media, suggested messages include:

  • A solution is in our hands
  • Justice for Gaza
  • I stand with the people of Palestine
  • End the apartheid

Remember, too, to use the hashtags #GazaUnderAttack and #InOurHands

Unifor is also putting together a webinar on June 10 at 5pm EST to discuss the current conflict in Gaza, and to provide a historic context for what is happening. Watch for more details.

Please also read and share Unifor’s statement on the current conflict.
