SURREY— The employer’s refusal to respond to the union’s proposals has forced Unifor Local 3000 to serve 84-hour strike notice at one of Surrey’s largest hotels.

“Reckless bargaining by the employer is going to result in a disruption in customer service,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “We’re prepared to bargain but the Sheraton hasn’t demonstrated the same commitment to getting a contract.”

Job action could begin at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1 if the hotel’s owners don’t engage in negotiations for a fair deal before the strike deadline and expiry of the Collective Agreement. Unifor represents 120 workers in all areas of the hotel including guest services, the lounge, banquets, kitchen, laundry, room attendants, and maintenance.

“A strike is imminent unless the employer is prepared to bargain,” said Jean Van-Vliet Unifor Local 3000 President. “These hotel workers deserve a fair deal.”
