TORONTO, Oct. 11, 2015 /CNW/ - Locked out OLG workers, members of Unifor working at Sudbury Downs, Casino Brantford and Woodbine Racetrack, have reached a tentative agreement with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
As part of the OLG's modernization plan, OLG workers are no longer eligible for their current pension plan. Talks broke down regarding the terms of a new retirement plan. Workers were locked out on September 19.
"Unifor members were determined to protect their retirement security," said Bob Orr, Assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer of Unifor. "With their strength and tremendous public support, we are optimistic we have reached a good deal."
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers, including 40,000 in the auto sector. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
