November 10, 2017 TORONTO – A tentative agreement has been reached between Gateway Casinos & Entertainment and Unifor Local 444, representing approximately 250 workers at the Dresden and Point Edward Casinos. “This tentative agreement is significant as it’s the first one reached since Gateway Casinos took over the casinos from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation,” said Deb Tveit, Assistant to the Unifor National President. “The bargaining committee worked hard to make sure that workers don’t pay the price for privatization.” As the largest union in the gaming sector, Unifor represents 8,700 casino workers across Canada. The new tentative agreements cover 205 members at Point Edward and 46 members at Dresden, working as slot attendants, slot technicians, dealers, servers and housekeeping staff. “Unifor has fought to protect good paying casino jobs through the privatization process,” said James Stewart, President of Unifor Local 444. “I’m pleased that we were able to obtain a fair deal to bring before our members.” Member voting is scheduled to take place this weekend.
