ST. JOHN’S—Supporters of the offshore oil and gas industry will hold a demonstration at the provincial legislature to demand the Furey government make a commitment to the Terra Nova.

“Building and maintaining the energy industry requires coordination and investment from all levels of government,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “Premier Andrew Furey’s proposal to simply walk away is a slap in the face to the province’s energy sector and the thousands of families it helps support.”

Premier Furey and Minister of Energy Andrew Parsons are expected to be in the legislature on Monday to participate in the emergency meeting on Terra Nova.

WHAT: Rally to support offshore oil and gas workers.

WHO: Dave Mercer, President of Unifor Local 2121; Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Natural Resources; Mary Shortall, President of the NL Federation of Labour; Dennis O’Keefe, former Mayor of St. John’s; Charlene Johnson, CEO of the NL Oil and Gas Industries Association; and other invited guests.

WHEN: Monday, June 14, 2021 at 9 a.m. NT.

WHERE: Front steps of the Confederation Building at 100 Prince Philip Drive in St. John’s.

The event will be livestreamed to fb.com/UniforCanada. A downloadable 4K video will be available for members of the media upon request.

There will be a media availability with Dave Mercer following the event.
