Nearly fifty Unifor members met at Queen’s Park in New Westminster, B.C. for the 2026 Unifor walk for Tears to Hope.

The Tears to Hope Society is an Indigenous-led non-profit supporting the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people through relay events and other initiatives.

“Every family deserves to be heard, and every person deserves to be safe,” said Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle at the event. “Our members came out to stand with the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people. Walking together is a small step, but it shows we will not look away.”

Unifor has partnered with the Society for several years to raise awareness, educate members and the public, and support the Society’s work.

Tears to Hope began as a team in Vancouver’s Sun Run, in honour of co-founder Lorna Brown’s niece, Tamara Chipman, who went missing on the Highway of Tears in 2005.
