SURREY, B.C.—Wage gains and scheduling improvements are highlights of a new collective agreement ratified today at 89% by members of Unifor Local 3000 at the Sheraton Guildford hotel in Surrey. Union members have been on the picket line for 136 days fighting for a fair contract.
“Credit is due to these members who refused to back down,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “Their effort has paid off with a contract that addresses wage concerns and builds for the next round of bargaining.”
The five-year contract provides a 6.5% retroactive wage increase from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025.
Non-gratuity earners will see a 18.5% increase as of the date of ratification, then 3% in 2027, and 3% in 2028. Gratuity earners will receive 6.5% on their current rate of pay then maintain 3.5% above minimum wage. Red Seal cooks get a $1/hour premium.
The new contract also includes improved housekeeping workload language, paid sick days, and footwear allowance up to $200.
Their agreement expired April 30, 2024, and the new collective agreement will expire April 30, 2029.
“Hospitality workers are the backbone of the tourism and conference economy in any region,” said Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle. “We’re proud of Local 3000 members for standing up for a fair contract.”
