Approximately 150 members of Unifor Locals 2163, 1090 and 199 at Securitas ratified a new agreement on March 19, 2022.

Securitas members provide fire protection and security services at the General Motors facilities in Woodstock, Oshawa and St. Catharines.

The strength of the agreement is owed to the hard work and resolve of the bargain team led by Local 2163 Chairperson Laura Romanick, Local 1090 Chairperson Peter Davies, and Local 199 Chairperson Mike Winterbottom.

The agreement makes many important improvements to all aspects of the collective agreement, but one stands out as particularly significant.

The union’s bargaining team successfully negotiated a revamped pension program with a new bridging allowance. Under the provision of the new Pension Bridging Correction, union members will receive up to an additional $1,000 per month between the ages of 60 and 65 depending on years of service and other conditions. The allowance gives members much needed financial support and is a significant achievement for bargaining in this sector not seen in years.

Wage improvements include a total increase of 5% (2.5% in the first year and 2.5% in year three), a $2,000 signing bonus as well as a lump-sum payment of 4% of the previous year’s earnings in the second year.

The newly ratified agreement amends the wage grid structure from 10 to 8 years meaning a shorter path for union members to reach the full wage rate.
