After 44 days of picketing and unwavering determination, 35 members of Unifor Local 114 at the Salvation Army in Langley, BC, have successfully ratified a new collective agreement.
The members, consisting of Truck Drivers, Assistant Truck Drivers, Dock Workers, and Sorters, took to the picket line in pursuit of fair wages and better working conditions. Their determination and solidarity paid off as they achieved substantial wage increases, with workers seeing their wages rise by as much as $4.50 per hour over the course of the four-year agreement.
“I am immensely proud of the unwavering commitment and unity displayed by our members at the Salvation Army in Langley,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National President. “Their hard-fought success serves as an inspiring example of how collective action can lead to substantial improvements in the lives of workers.”
This contract was a result of the tireless efforts of the bargaining committee and the unwavering commitment of Local 114 members who stood together throughout the 44-day strike. The newly ratified Collective Agreement is retroactive from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2027.
Gord McGrath, President of Unifor Local 114, expressed his pride in the accomplishments of this group, stating, "These workers showed that when we unite and stand together, we can achieve significant gains that can improve our lives and set a standard for the future.”
