Montreal, December 2, 2019 – In a meeting held this morning, members of Unifor Local 728 voted 80 percent to reject the second settlement proposal tabled by their employer Paccar.

“For our members, this proposal offered no improvements over what they had already rejected on Friday, since all it did was move money around between wages and group insurance. Members have sent a clear message and are even more determined now because of the lock-out declared by the employer while the parties were still negotiating,” commented Serge Dupont, Assistant to Unifor’s Quebec Director.

The employer declared the lock-out at one minute after midnight from Saturday to Sunday. In doing so, Paccar decided to apply the rule of “no contract, no work.” Since the collective agreement expired at midnight on November 30, Unifor’s members found themselves locked out over night.

Raises for skilled tradespeople, pension plan improvements and the elimination of two-tier pension plans are the main stumbling blocks in the negotiations.

Paccar employs 1,400 Unifor members who manufacture Peterbuilt and Kenworth trucks.
