Unifor members at CAE vote to strike

In a union meeting held on June 22, members of Unifor Local 522, voted 93% against the latest offer from the employer and immediately walked off the job.

“This strike action is an illustration of the mounting frustration of our members over the past few years in the face of difficult labour relations,” explained Daniel St-Pierre, National Representative for members at CAE.

Several issues stand in the way of a settlement, including wages, the pension plan, pay scales, and more. During the term of the previous collective agreement, the employer unilaterally changed the formula for calculating salary increases that had been in place for many years. This left a bitter taste in the mouths of members, who are still waiting for their fair share of the pie.

The collective agreement expired on June 19. The union has made a request for conciliation and the parties have already been summoned for June 26.

Local 522 represents nearly 475 members employed at CAE, which manufactures flight simulators.
