Local 7575 members at the Toronto-area boutique hotel Anndore House have ratified a new collective agreement containing significant improvements.
“Our new contract at Anndore House is unprecedented at this property,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “Local 7575 members should be very proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish in this round.”
Over the term of the three-year contract, wages will increase more than 11 per cent—more than double the company’s opening offer. Important workload protections for Room Attendants were also secured, including an assignment reduction and a guarantee that no workers will lose work as a result of the introduction of the sham “green” program popular at other Toronto hotels. Health benefits will be maintained and improved and the employer has agreed to major increases in pension contributions.
“The work of Unifor members make this hotel a desirable boutique destination in downtown Toronto,” says Nimfa Reyes, a room attendant at Anndore House. “It’s only right that we are compensated to reflect our important contribution.”
Unifor was also successful at enshrining a Women’s Advocate position in the collective agreement, as well as securing a mechanism for protecting workers from harassment by guests and introducing alert devices (panic buttons) for room attendants.
Unifor Local 7575 represents 25 room attendants, houseperson/laundry staff, and front desk workers.
